The ATRAP mobile App: Putting disease surveillance in the hands of the community
The ATRAP mobile app is a digital tool designed to support community-based monitoring of vector-borne diseases like schistosomiasis and malaria in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The app enables everyone (trained) to collect and share vital data on snail populations, environmental risk factors, and risky water practices in real time.

What can you do with the App?

  1. Record snail observations: Report sightings of freshwater snails and environmental factors using location-enabled data and photo uploads.
  2. Map risk areas: Contribute to dynamic, high-resolution risk maps that help researchers and health officials develop targeted interventions.
  3. Upload photos: Capture images of snail, risky water practices, or potential transmission sites for expert review.
  4. Track local trends: Access aggregated data from your area to see patterns in snail activity and disease risk.
  5. Share best practices: Receive tips and reminders on safe water practices, community events, and prevention strategies.
